The first Encore theatre Arts Summer School was held on Monday 2nd to Friday 6th August 2010 in Chertsey. We had 20 students ranging from age 5 to 11, all of whom worked very hard all work to put on a show on the Friday which was performed to parent, friends and family of the pupils.
The older children had the main parts in the show which was an abridged version of The Lion King and so spent most of the week learning dances, songs and acting. The younger children learnt dances, songs and most had speaking parts too.
We felt it was important for the children to understand what else you need to do to put on a show, so they all designed posters and programme covers, designed and made their costumes. The younger ones also designed and made the scenery, decorated t shirts and everyone had a go at face painting. It really was a very busy week but all the children embraced the challenge and really worked hard to achieve the final result.
And what a result it was......
"A truly wonderful display of enthusiasm, courage and talent! All in a week,
fantastic work! Well done to everyone involved."
(Debbie Greenwood, Mother of Zoe aged 6)
“Wow – how great was that? One week and no stage rehearsals, your work is brilliant, thank you for giving Sophie such a fab time and a part she loved.”
(Shemaine Embury, Mother of Sophie aged 5)
We will definitely be repeating this next year and would like to thank all the parents and children involved for their kind gifts and words – we really did enjoy the week.
